Priyanka replaces Deepika Padukone in ‘Race 2′

The story that Deepika Padukone walked out of Race 2 to do Yeh Jawani Hain Diwani with Ranbir Kapoor and Ayan Mukherjee is abuzz in the Bollywood circuit. However, Race 2 producer Ramesh Taurani tweeted it was a false rumour. He insisted that the leggy lady was still a part of the Abbas-Mastan film also starring Saif Ali Khan, John Abraham, Anil Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha.

But his worst fears came true. Apparently, Deepika couldn’t work out her dates and they desperately began looking for a new leading lady. They went back knocking on Priyanka Chopra’s door who was the first choice to play the role. Initially, when Race 2 sequel was being finalised the producer had spoken to Piggy Chops, but she was busy with Don 2 and turned down the offer.

A year later and the filmmakers have landed in the same situation and are just a month away from the shoot. As per a source close to the filmmaker, this time Priyanka is seriously considering Race 2 and working out her dates to accommodate the film. Wethink Dippy preferring to do a film with Ranbir Kapoor over the thriller is a good decision. On the other hand, it will also be great to watch PC join the boys for some thrilling action.

Deepika Padukone went on a glamor overdrive in a white sequin dress with a thigh high side slit and loud makeup at GQ India Men of the Year Awards 2011 at Hotel Grand Hyatt in Kalina, Mumbai on Thursday, September 29.

The 25-year-old was at the event with arm candy Siddharth Mallya, winner of Most Stylish Man Award. The two posed together for photogs on red carpet sans any PDA.

Deepika's column dress featured a modest cowl neck, cut out detail on sides of bodice and a left leg slit.

She rounded her look with sparkling silver platform pumps, a gold and black box clutch and two statement bracelets on her left arm.

Her hair was styled half up half down with a bouffant top and wavy tresses framing her shoulders.

Deepika Padukone admits to being at a loss regarding personal experience of caste-based reservations, but Deepika Padukone has no qualms speaking her mind, as she does about her latest film — Aarakshan

Deepika Padukone had a privileged upbringing. The daughter of one of India's top badminton players, she was a rising sports star when the modelling bug bit. Then came acting.
After making her debut in a South Indian film in 2006, Padukone earned a starring role alongside Bollywood's biggest star Shah Rukh Khan in Om Shanti Om in 2007.

Now, as she embarks on an off-beat role in Aarakshan (Reservation), based on India's notorious caste system, she is quick to admit that the issue was not entirely familiar to her.

"For many Indians, the reservation issue is a hard-hitting reality. But honestly, I didn't feel for the issue strongly, because I have never really experienced it in my own life. And I truly feel that unless a person doesn't experience it for real, the importance and impact varies. But I have a learnt a lot about the issue during the filming," she tells tabloid!.

"I speak my mind and I speak honestly. I am not a celebrity who just makes controversial statements to sound interesting or to shock people. I can never do that."

Directed by acclaimed director Prakash Jha, Aarakshan tackles the sensitive subject of the reservation of seats and jobs based on people's social class as opposed to merit. The issue has caused major protests around the country recently.

The ensemble drama is massive in its scale and boasts an eclectic cast also comprising Saif Ali Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Prateik Babbar and Manoj Bajpai. But Padukone, 25, claims that the serious topic has been dealt with a deft hand. "It's not your run-of-the-mill romantic film with many song-and-dance sequences in it.

As for Shahid, he’s an intense actor. I’m positive this pair can project the pangs of passionate love,” he added.

The latest that we hear is Deepika will be seen along with Katrina in the sequel of Housefull Housefull 2. If buzz is to be believed, actors like Katrina Kaif, Paresh Rawal, John Abraham and Nana Patekar have been roped in, to join the original cast Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, Arjun Rampal and Deepika Padukone.

However, director Sajid Khan said that he has confirmed only John Abraham, Akshay and Riteish for the film as he is still in the scripting stage. He added that Deepika and Katrina are his friends but didn’t give a clear picture if he is casting them in the film.

Well, it’s surely gonna be a feast to the eyes watching Deepy and Kats together on-screen.

Deepika Padukone on Marie Claire Magazine (October 2010)

Deepika Padukone Launches the Latest Marie Clare Issue. Wow, she looks great. It's such a pleasant change to see her all glammed up.

While the Verve Sep cover had Deepika in an Indian avatar, the Marie Claire Oct one has her more in a western (sort of) bridal avatar with a black Namrata Joshipura sequin jacket and a white flounce floor-length skirt.


I say sort of because of course, we all know it’s all-white when it comes to western wedding although Ms. Padukone looks mighty good in the black and white.
